Blessings and thankfulness Part 2

Hahahaha somebody is mad at me. I got on here this morning to talk more about Blessings and thankfulness and I spent about an hour pouring out what I had on my heart and listing all the scriptures that went with it. I worked on it for about an hour. I went to copy and paste one of the final scriptures and pushed Control V to paste. But for some reason it didn't copy it over it erased everything and on the page was nothing but the letter "n". All at the same time blogger decided to auto save. All that work gone. hahaha! Normally I'd be mad but what can you do? I'll just have to start over.
I'm guessing this topic is pretty imortant as the enemy is trying to "delete" my work. Well guess what? That's not stopping me. I'll sit here and type it all over again. Take that!

God has blessed us from the beginning of creation.

Genesis 1:28
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Just because we were created we got God's blessing.

Genesis 2:3
Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

I find this interesting. God did all that work. He made all these wonderful things then on the 7th day He sat back looked at what he accomplished, rested and blessed it.
Have you ever done a sink full of dishes, 3 loads of laundry, mopped and vaccumed the floors, made dinner, took care of the kids, paid bills, went food shopping and changed mountain of dirty diapers and sat back at the end of the day and blessed it? I know I haven't. Sure, we haven't created anything as spectacular as God has, but we are to follow His example. At the end of all His creating and work He blessed it.

Genesis 5:2
He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.

Have you ever felt unworthy of God's blessing? I know I have. Surely, I'm not good enough to receive any good from God. But in Genesis 5 we see God state again that He created us and we are blessed. This is after the fall of man. This is after the expulsion from the Garden, and yet He still says He created man and man is blessed. Nothing can separate us from God once we have accepted Him as our Savior. You see God died for my sin. He paid the price. God knew all my mistakes before I even committed one of them and He still thinks I'm pretty special. Repeat that to yourself. I am special. Sure it sounds silly but there is power in the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Speak life into your own body. Many of us think we're not good enough. Many of us have been told lies (curses) from our parents. We don't think we add up, we'll never be any good, we don't deserve x, y, z. Break the curse. Speak life into your own bones.

Genesis 9:1
[ God’s Covenant With Noah ] Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

God blessed Noah for his obedience to him. Sometimes we can't see the big picture. Sometimes we have to go through the storm and nothing makes sense. But if we keep focus, follow God's commands, and praise Him in ALL things He will bless us.
My favorite analogy of this is that of a pilot who is flying through a storm. He can't see. His feelings are telling him he should do one thing to fly the plane. He needs to go against all his feelings and everything that feels natural to him and keep his eyes locked on the instruments and fly according to what they are telling him. Sometimes when we are in the middle of the storm we don't feel like praising God. We don't feel like be thankful. The enemy is good at pointing out all we are lacking and taking the focus off what God promises.
I will NEVER leave you or forsake you. Hebrew 13:5

Even when you don't feel like it start of your day by thanking God. If you feel like you have nothing to be thankful for then start off saying "Thank you Lord, that you are good." Over and over scripture states:
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1
Thankfulness was so important that David even woke up at the new day and began thanking God.
Psalm 119:62
At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws.

I know, I know...who in their right mind (especially with little kids) would wake up at midnight and thank God. I know I don't. But the point is, that thanking God is so important in our walk with Him that it was the very first thing David did everyday. As soon as you wake up start thanking Him. Pray blessing over the day, your family, your life, your land, your food, your dirty toilet. See how different you feel. I tell you that the day I began this I didn't feel like thanking God and praying for blessing. I wanted to sulk in my misery. But I did what I knew I should not what I felt. Can I tell you that by the time I was done giving thanks for everyone and everything I could think of and praying blessings over their life that I felt this sense of peace that I haven't felt before. I felt joy and laughter well up inside me like I've never experienced before.

Psalm 100:4&5 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

We are to continually give thanks to God. Once you start thanking God you'll be thankful for everything. As I typed this I had corn bread cooking. I forgot about and took it out and hope it wasn't burnt. When I took it out of the pan I saw it wasn't and said "thank you God." So simple so petty, but what power being thankful has.

Psalm 35:28
My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long.

My whole point it that we have the power through Jesus to unlock all these blessings for our lives. We have the power over every situation in our lives.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

GIVE THANKS IN ALL THINGS! Even if your situation is bleak. Thank God that He is working. If that's all you can muster up then do it. Just because we can't see him moving and working doesn't mean He isn't. It takes time. He uses others sometimes to help us change our situations. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean He isn't working. Give thanks!

To sum it up what I've learned is to start each day with thanks and blessings. It certainly will set the tone for the day. It will change your life. Start right now. Thank God and speak blessing in your life. You will see and feel a change I promise.

Jotting all this down is mostly for me. I don't think I'm this great teacher of all things. I'm just keeping a journal for myself and also sharing when I feel led to share. If I needed to hear this then certainly there are others who need to hear it too.

I hope some of this could be of help to you and I pray that you will be blessed.

Numbers 6:22-27

The LORD said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
24 “‘“The LORD bless you
and keep you;
25 the LORD make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’

27 “So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

Gratefulness and Blessings

I have been praying lately for God to speak to me. As always, I feel it would be nice to pick up the phone and hear an audible response from God. I keep whining and complaing to him about all my "problems". So much so, that I am sick of hearing myself pray to Him.

Two days ago I felt led to have prayers that thanked Him for what I did have rather then what I didn't have. This was hard. I didn't want to be thankful for the shopping cart of food I just bought that I didn't have money for. How could I be thankful for that? How could I be thankful in these circumstances? But knowing that I should listen I went ahead and followed His leading and made the prayer only about things I was thankful for. Much to my surprise I left the shower (the only place I can really pray) feeling more at peace about everything then I had in a long time.

Later that day I sat down to watch Joyce Meyer. I hadn't watched her show in a while and usually when this happens that day there is something that speaks to me. Well I was not dissapointed. I sat down to find a whole sermon on being thankful. We need to be more thankful. Even for stupid things. And if your situation is too overwhelming and it seems that heaven is quiet thank God that He is working. Even though we don't see the end result doesn't mean that God is not working on it at this very moment.
Ok. Got that lesson. Be thankful.

Next day I woke up and began thanking God for everything. All day I repeated things I was thankful for and said the phrase "God I trust you" over and over again. Finally some peace.

I sat down to watch Joyce again and today's message was on blessing. How we need to speak blessings in our life. It sounds silly but saying things outloud like "I am blessed" really does help. She spoke using Deuteronomy 28 as reference:

Blessings for Obedience
1 If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:
3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.

4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.

5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.

6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

7 The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.

8 The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.

9 The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in obedience to him. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. 11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.

12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.

You will notice how God says that if we obey we will be blessed, our offspring will be blessed our land will be blessed, or feeding troughs will be blessed...heck even our animals will be blessed. Joyce suggested that we start to proclaim these blessing in our life. That words have the power of life or death and often times we speak nothing but death to ourselves...."I'm no good" "I screwed up" "I'm such a failure" "I'm not a good mom" "I blew it" etc.
She said to wake up in the morning and to ask God to bless the day. Ask God to bless you, bless your family, bless your finances, bless your food, bless whatever you can think of to bless. As verse 2 says "All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God". This is a promise. I will be blessed if I obey the Lord my God. So why worry?

Can I tell you that ever since I started doing this I feel a huge burden lifted from my heart. I feel happier, lighter, filled with joy. I think I can see how now how you can be joyful in all situations. This is what God was speaking to my heart. Instead of focusing on the bills I couldn't pay He wanted me to thank Him for the bills I did pay. Instead of looking at the food I didn't have, thank Him for what was in my fridge. Thank Him for the new day instead of sitting in anxiety and misery. What good does that do? I can't change the situation. I've tried. It's not working. Maybe God brought me to this place to show me how blessed my life really is. He knows the desires of my heart. He is my Provider. I will trust in Him. Even if I said I believed it, but in my heart didn't. Saying the words "I trust you God" over and over every time a bit of fear sneaks in squashes the enemeny and reminds me that God is in control. He is bigger then my situation and He knew we would be in this place. He promises to work all things out for the good of those who love Him.

So if your feeling down, if your having a bad day try this. I didn't believe it would work but I tell you it has worked for me. It worked instantly that day, and everyone is happier because of it.

I leave you with my Bible verse for the day:

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

~ Philippians 4:19, NLT
