Hospital Tour

I never mentioned anything about the hospital here. Having seen it has helped ease my fears a bit. It seems to be quite the happening hospital. They have 30-40 births per month which if you do the math equals out to be about one baby a day. Although the day I went in there was no one in the maternity ward at all. I just realized that my scheduled c-section is set for the day after the full moon. Now I'm hoping I go into labor as it will probably be packed on that day. Afterall crazy things happen on full moon's.

Anyway this hospital is nice. Not as nice as the one I delivered Emma in, but so much nicer then the one I had Ethan in.

First thing I love....they have their own O.R. this is very important especially for a mama who tends to go early. As long as the maternity O.R. is not occupied I get right in. No being bumped on times etc. This wasn't the case when I had Ethan. I had to be wheeled the the regular O.R. (when it was free) and then have the baby, wait in recovery on that floor, then be brought back up to my room on the maternity ward. Here its all in one. They will do the c-section then roll me next door where I will actually get to have my baby with me while I am in recovery. Which is AMAZING!!!! I never got to see Ethan until he was about 4 hrs old. Oh yah and Phil can be in recovery with me as well.

The second great thing is that they only have to do general anesthesia in about 1 in every 40 births. That eases my mind a bit. The odds are in my favor of being awake and having someone who knows what they are doing.

Next is that after surgery they will put me on a morphine drip that I can control. This wasn't the case with Ethan. I woke up so sore and they gave me so percacet in pill form. I was in a lot of pain with Ethan. This time I get to stay on stronger meds for 24 hrs which is really a great blessing.

The rooms.......The rooms are HUGE! They just recently made all the rooms private (thank you Jesus) They have a bed, tv, a sleeper chair for dad if he wants to stay and a kids table and chairs set for siblings to sit and color, eat whatever. This is amazing. When I had Ethan they were semi-private rooms and though no one else was in the room we weren't allowed to sit on the other bed. Phil couldn't have stayed if he wanted to there just wasn't any room, and Emma was bored out of her mind.

And the room also has it's own bathroom!!!! When I had Ethan there was a toilet in the room but the shower was out in the hallway. After the first 24 hrs they want you to get up and shower and it's quite the feat for someone just having that kind of surgery to truck out to the hallway looking halfway decent and squeezing into this little room (more like a closet) that has just a shower. I could barely lift my leg to get into the shower and needed Phil's help all while the door was semi open because there just wasn't any room in there for two people.

They band the babies with electronic bracelets and every exit has a camera so they can see who comes and goes. Again...not so with Ethan.

It definitely put my mind at ease and I am actually more excited about having her now. I just have to hold out until the 15th when my sister gets here.
